Whether in cities or in the countryside, many Filipinos live in insecure housing, always dreading the next typhoon that might wreck their homes or endanger lives.
Tanging Yaman Foundation is grateful to the Zapanta Realty and Development Corporation which donated P2-M for the construction of 25 core shelters for families at risk. TYF is working with Cebu Caritas to build these shelters in Napo, Carcar City, Cebu, a highland barangay where the main livelihood is agriculture. Super Typhoon Odette made landfall in the next town, and numerous families have not been able to rebuild durable houses.
Caritas has held orientation meetings for the parish and community and formed a screening committee that conducted on-site visits to the homes of more than 80 applicants. Construction will start very soon and be completed by October 2023.
